Tunes

With so many different types of pipes in different keys and players from different musical backgrounds, sometimes it can be tricky to think of what to play when pipers get together for a tune. Some suggestions are listed below. The dots can be readily found on the Internet on sites such as The Session or JC's ABC Tune Finder.

Below are some suggested tunes for playing on uilleann pipes and Scottish smallpipes. The first 13 tunes are from a list compiled at the Castlemaine Weekend 2012 as the pipers sat together and discovered which tunes they knew in common. There are two documents containing tunes especially for playing on Scottish smallpipes, compiled by Geoff Jones. O'Rourke's Reel and The Wild Irishman were taught to workshop participants present at the Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson evening of piping in March 2015. These tunes can begin to form a common repertoire amongst pipers, or simply a list of suggested tunes for those wondering which tunes to learn next.
